Screens for Adam and Eve

2018
Vintage cotton curtain linings; wood; clay; receipts

This work was made during the installation of the exhibition Metaphoria III, curated by Silvia Guerra, which responded to the writing of the late Portuguese poet Rui Costa, and in particular his unpublished novel, Les Dialogues d’Adam et Ève au seuil d’un Monde Nouveau (The Dialogues of Adam and Eve on the Threshold of a New World). (It can here be seen behind two statues by Hans-Peter Feldmann.)

The screens were made for two young actors, behind which they could stand and read from Costa’s novel. The stands were weighted with clay, the material from which — in Hebrew — Adam takes his name. The clay was bought from the nearest art supply shop to the gallery, Adam, in Montmartre.
