Maquette for The Large Glass (Obscured)
2006
Oak, glass, inkjet print on acetate, paint
This work is a small-scale model of Marcel Duchamp’s major work, The Bride Stripped Bare by her Bachelors, Even (1915–1923), or, as it is now commonly known, The Large Glass. The glass of this model has been obscured with whitener, as one might see upon a window during redecoration, a reference, perhaps, not only to the relationship between The Large Glass and domestic architecture proposed in the film Zugzwang (almost complete), but perhaps also hints at the conceptual opacity of Duchamp’s work itself.
