Concrete and Palms (for JGB)
Framed Colour Photograph
While on a stop-over in Singapore en route to Papua New Guinea, I was reminded of the work of JG Ballard, and the motifs of high-rises and palm trees that feature so often in his work; the sense of tropical modernity. This was foremost in my mind while taking this photograph, as a form of homage. It was at this precise moment that I received a text from a mutual friend telling me that Ballard had just died; the photograph became a form of memorial. A tropical rainstorm followed immediately afterwards.
