Le Voyeur (for AR-G)
50 x 70cm
One of a series of photographs taken near Finisterre, on the Brittany coast, near where the French writer, Alain Robbe-Grillet, was born and raised. The photographs, all of which show only rocky cliffs and a turbulent sea below, borrow their title from Robbe-Grillet’s 1955 novel, in which the body of a young girl is described as being found at the base of such a landscape feature (although it is not altogether clear whether the event exists entirely in the imagination of the narrator). Like much of my work, this series explores the overlaying of history onto place.
